The story of 16 Cents, 3 Shoes & 5 Socks started when Jason McSteen was on the streets of Spokane, homeless. Jason worked hard to find his way by selling one mattress at a time, and eventually started selling every type of mattress and piece of furniture available in three different locations. Jason continues to give back to the less fortunate as often as he can.
Rick Clark, a former homeless man, now Gonzaga University student and soon to be graduate, previously benefited by Jason’s gracious heart. Rick often times reaches out to Jason on projects. Together, Jason, Rick and Mike Ellis work to get the job done right!
As the temperature rises in our area, so is the need for water. Jason and Rick
know this is important for all those without shelter. This heat can cause major
issues. It started with a Facebook post from Rick Clark
asking Spokane
to donate water to help the homeless. Several days later, generous people were still dropping off cases of water at 16 Cents,
3 Shoes & 5 Socks
. Several cases
of water were shared to help the homeless women at Hope House.
Rick Clark made several trips with cases of water to many businesses in the surrounding area such as the Zips near Whitworth and Office Depot , along withthe Hope House and Women’s Hearth. Both locations help women struggling with poverty and homelessness in downtown Spokane. The ladies were extremely grateful.
